Chatham Township Addresses Resident Concerns Over Anonymous QR Code Signs

August 27, 2025

The Township of Chatham has become aware of anonymous signs with QR codes placed throughout the community. The QR code directs residents to a survey regarding a Township department. Residents have expressed confusion as to whether or not the Township is conducting this effort. The signs and survey were not created, authorized, or endorsed by the Township of Chatham.

In today’s environment of online scams, impersonation attempts, and data breaches, members of the public are strongly advised to exercise caution when encountering QR codes, links, or surveys from anonymous sources. Such tools may be used to harvest personal or contact information for ulterior motives, including commercial or political marketing purposes.

This type of communication is potentially disruptive to the community as they can mislead residents and jeopardize their personal information as well as cause confusion between third party and official Township communications.  The Township of Chatham would like to remind its residents that all official communications can be verified through the Township’s website at https://www.chathamtownship.org. Information is also disseminated through the Township’s email newsletter and community alert system (link), its official Facebook page (link), and by regular U.S. mail.

The Township Committee, Township Administrator, and Department Heads always welcome constructive feedback and encourage residents to reach out in the following ways:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Telephone: (973) 635-4600
  • Mayor’s Office Hours: posted on Township website
  • Mail or In-Person: 58 Meyersville Road, Chatham, NJ 07928
