Parks & Recreation
There are many wonderful opportunities for active and passive recreation in the Township! Chatham Township and Chatham Borough partner to provide sports and recreation programs for both youth and adults through our Joint Recreation Department. We offer a full youth recreation program including baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, football, cheerleading, field hockey, summer sports camps, and band and orchestra programs. Several sports are run as clubs. Information for these programs can be found at www.chathamrecreation.org.
The Township owns and operates the public Colony Pool and Tennis Club, a membership supported facility offering swimming and tennis. Colony Pool is a spring fed, clear water pond with plenty of sand and grass areas for people to enjoy and relax. There are six public tennis courts at the Colony Pool Club. Colony Pool is located at Spring St. and School Ave.
Local parks and recreation fields include Nash Park, Shunpike Park, Esternay Park, and Mountainview Park. The Playground at Castle Park is a popular destination for young children.
Hikers, birders, and nature enthusiasts are able to visit the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge Observation Center off Long Hill Road and Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center off of Southern Boulevard to access hiking trails and boardwalks. Other trails in Chatham Township include the Green Village Conservation Trail, Giralda Farm Preserve Trail, Hillside Trail, and Shunpike Trail.
