Chatham to Launch “Hometown Heroes” Banner Program on August 1

July 31, 2025

The Chatham community is proud to announce the launch of its “Hometown Heroes” Banner Program, an initiative designed to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The program officially begins August 1, anticipating the display of personalized banners throughout the Borough in time for Veterans Day this November.

Formed at the 2025 Chatham Borough Reorganization Meeting, the Hometown Heroes Banner Advisory Committee includes local veterans, civic leaders, and engaged residents from both the Borough and the Township, who are committed to commemorating those who have served our nation. The committee will oversee the nomination process, banner design, and installation logistics for the program.

The initial nomination period opens August 1 and will run through Friday, August 29. The committee invites residents of the Chathams to submit the names of family members or local veterans on the Banner Submission form, along with the $110.00 fee to Chatham Hometown Heroes Banner Program at 54 Fairmount Avenue, Chatham Borough, NJ 07928. Each honoree will be featured on an individual banner, proudly displayed on light poles throughout the central business district. To support the project, municipal officials have established a trust fund to receive any fees or donations. The committee is also partnering with the Gates Flag & Banner Company to bring these banners to the central business district.

In addition to the street displays, the committee is planning to organize a special Veterans Day event at Borough Hall in November, during which all banners will be gathered and displayed as a collective tribute. The committee plans to return with a second round of banner nominations in early 2026, in time for a new installation ahead of Memorial Day.
