Township Committee Presents Citizen’s Award to Longtime Resident Thomas Salvas

March 26, 2024

Longtime Township resident Thomas Salvas was honored by Mayor Ewald and the Township Committee at the March 26th Township Committee meeting, where he was presented a Chatham Township Citizen Award in recognition of his contributions and service to the community.

Mr. Salvas, a veteran of the US Air Force who served with the rank of Captain, has been a part of many local organizations, including the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign Advisory Committee, Library of The Chathams, Chatham Township Historical Society, and Township Government. Mr. Salvas is also one of the creators of the Veterans Project of The Chathams, a biographical collection of local military veterans maintained as an archive by the library.

As part of the Historical Society, where he once served as Trustee and remains a member, Mr. Salvas has captured history through his photography, audio recordings, and videos. He also played a critical role in the implementation of several historical markers across town and in the planning of the Chatham Colony Association Centennial.

Mr. Salvas has also assisted the Township Government, spearheading the Township’s efforts to broadcast meetings live during his tenure as Government Access TV Manager, where he produced more than 225 Township Committee meetings over ten years.

Thank you for your service to our town and country, and congratulations Mr. Salvas!
