Township of Chatham Announces New Construction Official and Departmental Improvements
The Township of Chatham is pleased to announce the appointment of John “Jack” Daniels as the new Construction Official, effective April 3, 2023. Daniels succeeds a long-standing member of our team who has recently entered retirement.
This transition presents an exciting opportunity for a comprehensive reassessment of our Building Department’s operations. Daniels brings with him over two decades of government experience, having served in multiple municipalities, and is a respected Instructor in his field at Rutgers University.
Within his short time in office, Daniels has already identified numerous areas in need of improvement. His initial assessment will ensure the State Uniform Construction Code is rigorously upheld for the safety and well-being of all Chatham residents and visitors. Daniels has also discovered instances of incorrect application processing, non-compliance with financial policies, and poor record management.
The Building Department is committed to enhancing its operational efficiency. This includes the implementation of streamlined and digital applications, timely processing, and tracking systems. These improvements are designed to ensure that both new and existing residents, along with their contractors, have access to expedited inspections and real-time information about their process through the Township’s online portal. Staffing changes will be made to support these improvements.

Our ultimate goal is to provide a superior customer service experience that our residents deserve and expect.”
