Chatham Township Unveils New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Nash Field and Shunpike Field

April 4, 2023

The Chatham Township Committee, in collaboration with the Environmental Commission, are pleased to announce the unveiling of their new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The Blink Mobile/SemaConnect charging stations, located at Nash Field and Shunpike Field, are now available for public use.

Each location has two Level 2 chargers which can provide up to 25 miles of range per hour of charging, making them ideal for those who need to top up their EV’s while running errands or participating in outdoor activities.

The charging stations are user-friendly and can be activated by using the mobile app, a mobile wallet, or a “tap to pay” credit card.  The app also provides real-time updates on the charging status and cost, making it easy for EV owners to monitor their charging sessions.

“We are thrilled to introduce these charging stations to the community,” said Mayor Ashley Felice.  “As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, it’s important for our community to have convenient access to charging stations.  Our hope is that these charging stations will make it easier for residents and visitors to power up their vehicles and continue their daily activities with ease.”

The installation of the EV charging stations was made possible through a $16,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s “It Pay$ to Plug In” program.  In the first quarter since they were installed, nearly 300 kilowatt hours of electricity has been served by these two charging stations helping to generate revenue for the Township while providing a public service.  The Chatham Township Environmental Commission developed the grant application and the Department of Public Works installed the equipment in-house to complete the project.
