UPDATE: 2024 Road Maintenance Schedule Announced
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the schedule has been modified as of August 8, 2024. Further updated as of August 16, 2024.
As part of the Township of Chatham’s commitment to providing the best services possible and ensuring infrastructure is maintained to highest levels, Mayor Stacey Ewald and the Township Committee adopted Resolution 2024-153 on June 25, 2024 to authorize the award of a road resurfacing contract to Riverview Paving, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $475,000. Additionally, the Township was awarded a grant from the State of New Jersey in the amount of $260,630 for improvements to River Road (from Southern Boulevard to the Township Boundary) and Mount Vernon Avenue.
The roads were selected based on the professional recommendations of the Township Engineer and Public Works Superintendent. Township roads are evaluated and assessed annually based on a number of criteria. An annual repaving list is then developed that considers the total length of road resurfacing possible within the annual budget allocation and the score/grade of the municipal roads.
A pre-construction meeting was held on July 16, 2024 with Township staff and the contractor. The contractor provided the milling and paving schedule below. Please note that this schedule is subject to change and may be affected by weather.

All vehicles must be removed from the road on days of milling and paving. Residents will have access to their driveways during road milling, though temporary delays will occur when the road is being milled in front of a property.
If you need to use your vehicle on the paving dates, you will have to move your vehicle to another location prior to 7AM and walk to your car. Please note the newly paved road will not be able to be driven upon until cones have been removed from the end of the road by authorized personnel.
