Swim Team
Eligibility
- The Competitive Swim Team welcomes all Colony Pool Club members who are 18 years old and under (as of June first) and who have passed the deep water test.
- The Developmental Swim Team bridges the gap between our Learn-To-Swim classes and The Competitive Swim Team. The team meets Monday through Thursday. Generally, swimmers who join this program have not yet passed The Deep Water Test, but are otherwise Intermediate level swimmers.
- No previous swim team experience is necessary for either swim team program.
- Lifeguards are welcome and are expected to commit to all home meets.
Financial Commitment
- Fees are per swimmer for both the Swim Team & Developmental Swim Team (M-Th).
- Swimmers must purchase their own goggles and swimsuit.
- Swimmers will receive a swim cap and t-shirt.
- Swimmers are encouraged, but not required, to wear the team suit.
- Colony Pool Swim Gear can be purchased through our merchandise store.
Parental Commitment
- Attend a mandatory parent meeting before the season starts.
- Get swimmers to practices and home meets on time.
- Check the Swim Team Emails for notices.
- Leave the swim area during practices.
- Help with year-end team party.

- Keeping the deck clear
SWIMMER’S COMMITMENT
Meets
- 8 League sponsored meets.
- Meets begin in early July and generally occur twice a week.
- Only swimmers who qualify at the Divisionals meet will participate in the Meet of Champions.

Team Practices
- Swimmers should attend practice the day of an evening meet.
Meet Format
- Swimmers must arrive one hour before the meet starts.
- Event and lane assignments are given to swimmers at the pre-meet meeting.
- Heat assignments are given when there is a large number of swimmers for an event (heat 1 is competition, all others are exhibition only).
- Our team gets 3 lanes for each event (1,3,5 or 2,4,6).
- A swimmer may be in up to 3 events in a meet.
- Swimmers do laps to warm up.
- Meets can take up to three hours to complete.
Swimmers who are not competing in the current event:
- must stay out of the pool
- must stay clear of the deck
- must listen for the coaches to announce their event
- may encourage and cheer for their teammates
The order of events is:
- Individual Medley (25 yards each stroke)
- 12 and under girls, then boys
- 13 – 18 girls, then boys
- Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, & Butterfly
- 8 and under girls, then boys (25 yards)
- 9 – 10 girls, then boys (25 yards)
- 11 – 12 girls, then boys (50 yards)
- 13 – 14 girls, then boys (50 yards)
- 15 – 18 girls, then boys (50 yards)
- Relays
- 12 & under Medley girls, then boys (4 swimmers, 25 yards each stroke).
- 13 & over co-ed Medley (4 swimmers, 50 yards each stroke).
- 8 & under co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 yards each).
- 12 & under co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 yards each).
- 13 & over co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 50 yards each).
