Swim Team
Eligibility
- The Competitive Swim Team welcomes all Colony Pool Club members who are 18 years old and under (as of June first) and who have passed the deep water test.
- The Developmental Swim Team bridges the gap between our Learn-To-Swim classes and the Competitive Swim Team. Swimmers who join this program generally haven’t passed The Deep Water Test, but are otherwise Intermediate level swimmers.
- No previous swim team experience is necessary for either swim team program.
Financial Commitment
- Fees are per swimmer for both the Swim Team & Developmental Swim Team.
- Swimmers must purchase their own goggles and swimsuit.
- Swimmers will receive a swim cap and t-shirt.
- Swimmers are encouraged, but not required, to wear the team suit.
- Colony Pool Swim Gear can be purchased through our merchandise store.
Parental Commitment
- Attending a mandatory parent meeting before the season starts.
- Getting swimmers to practices and home meets on time and keeping up with swim team notices.
- Helping with the year-end team party.
- Potentially assisting at meets with activities such as Score Keeping, Ribbon Writing, timing, and announcing.
SWIMMER’S COMMITMENT
- Daily practice, Monday through Thursday.
- 8 League sponsored meets.
- Meets begin in early July and generally occur twice a week.
- Swimmers should attend practice the day of an evening meet.
- Only swimmers who qualify at the Divisionals meet will participate in the Meet of Champions.
General Meet Format:
- Swimmers must arrive one hour before the meet starts.
- The team gets 3 lanes for each event (1,3,5 or 2,4,6), which are assigned at the pre-meet meeting.
- Heat assignments are given when there is a large number of swimmers for an event (heat 1 is competition, all others are exhibition only).
- A swimmer may be in up to 3 events in a meet.
- Swimmers do laps to warm up.
- Meets can take up to three hours to complete.
General Event Schedule:
- Individual Medley (25 yards each stroke)
- 12 & under, and 13 & over girls/boys.
- Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, & Butterfly
- 8 and under girls/boys (25 yards)
- 9 – 10 girls/boys (25 yards)
- 11 – 12, 13-14, and 15-18 girls/boys (50 yards)
- Relays
- 12 & under Medley girls/boys (4 swimmers, 25 yards each stroke).
- 13 & over co-ed Medley (4 swimmers, 50 yards each stroke).
- 8 & under, 12 & under, and 13 & over co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 yards each).
