Engineering
Chatham Township’s Engineering Services are proposed by Mott MacDonald, a top consulting engineering firm in the United States. The Township Engineer provides professional engineering assistance to the Chatham Township Administration, Committee, Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Adjustment. The Engineering Department also provides technical support on capital improvement projects from concept through engineering design and construction inspection.
Engineering responsibilities include
- Review Planning and Zoning Board Applications; Provide professional review and professional comments of plans
- Review of lot grading plans and applications
- Provide Construction Inspections of site work and infrastructure for developments
- Write and submit state aid applications
- Design, administer, and inspect state aid projects
- Administer Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Permitting and inspecting
- Coordinate with the Public Works Department for annual pavement resurfacing program
- Design Township infrastructure projects (i.e. drainage improvements, road improvements, sidewalk repairs and extensions, sanitary sewer system and wastewater treatment plant upgrades, athletic field improvements)
- Provide Floodplain Management Support
- Maintenance of tax, topographical, flood, sewer, drainage, and street maps
- Coordination with other Municipal, County, State, and Federal agencies including Morris County, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Coordination with and support of the following boards & committees:
- Township Committee
- Board of Health
- Open Space Committee
- Safe Routes to School
- Committee
- Environmental Commission
- Office of Emergency Management
- Planning Board
- Zoning Board of Adjustments
