Township Clerk
The Municipal Clerk serves as secretary to the governing body, secretary to the municipal corporation, Chief Administrative Officer of all elections, and custodian of all minutes, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, and archival records of the municipality. The Clerk’s office issues liquor, taxi, social affairs, and raffles licenses; registers voters, and provides general information to the public.

Marriage Licenses

- **Complete but DO NOT sign the application form before going to the Local Registrar. You must sign the application, while under oath, in the presence of the issuing authority.**
Certified Copies of Birth/Death/Marriage Records
Certified Copies of Birth, Death and Marriage Records can be obtained by submitting the appropriate form with proof of ID, payment in the appropriate amount ($10 per copy) and proof of eligibility to obtain the record. Please call 973-635-3209 with any questions.
Dog/Cat Licensing
As per state law and local ordinance, all pets in Chatham Township must be licensed through the Clerk’s Office. This process allows us to keep a database of pets that animal control or the police department can use to contact pet owners in the event their pet is found lost and wandering. It also helps us keep our animals and environment safe by ensuring pets have up to date vaccinations against rabies.
Applications for dog and cat licenses can be submitted online through the SDL Portal. Once applications are reviewed, an invoice for payment will be sent by email. Existing licenses must be renewed yearly. Renewals open in December and must be submitted by January 31st. The free structure for licenses is as follows:

$11: Not Neutered/Spayed
$5: Renewal Late Fee, Added After January 31st

$21: Neutered/Spayed
$24: Not Neutered/Spayed
